Finisterrae

An ode to the temporality of feeling at home

Common Ground Practice
Presicce, Italy, 2023

Finisterrae is an experimental residency project located at the southern edge of Italy, in the Puglia region. We were invited by Martina Ciceri, a dear friend and architect, who had recently completed the renovation of a house her family had acquired in the small town of Presicce (LE).

Alongside five other designers from various disciplines, we became, in July 2023, the first to inhabit the renovated house as part of this experimental residency.

We served as temporary inhabitants, experiencing the house as a home and using creative mediums to document our discoveries, impressions and connections with the local community.

During our week-long stay, we explored the spatial qualities of the house and immersed ourselves in the local area. This experience allowed us to create a dialogue between the house and its surroundings. The outcomes of the residency were showcased in an exhibition held within the house and open to the community of Presicce.
